In this commercial, a hotel concierge or assistant (it’s sort of hard to tell what his job is, although I guess he works for the hotel since he’s not traveling with her) uses mobile technology to get everything set up in Mariah Carey’s hotel room. Also, he looks a lot like a straight-haired Mark (Michael Urie) from Ugly Betty. Obviously, this is fiction since Mariah travels with her own assistant army.

This is one of my all-time favorite Ugly Betty clips ever. In season 1, Mode magazine creative director Wilhelmina was trying to get Bradford Meade–owner of Mode–to fall in love with her. First step? Convincing Bradford his wife was evil and to dump her. Wilhelmina asked her sycophantic assistant, Marc, to slap her around a little bit so she could claim she was attacked by Bradford’s wife, but he was hesitant to do it. That’s how you know this show is fiction, people, because which of us would ever have a problem smacking our boss?
We love Michael Urie’s portrayal of Marc, sycophantic and neurotic assistant to fashion magazine editrix Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) on Ugly Betty. We’re also thrilled that the writer’s strike is over and we can get our Marc/Betty fix back. Michael gave a very personal interview to the L.A. Times recently. Among the things we learned? He, like us, is obsessed with Celebrity Rehab and, unlike us, is a giant “Fanilow.” Somebody needs to find a role for Barry Manilow on the show this season!
