well, that’s one way to get hired

We get it. There’s a recession on. And a lot of people are losing their jobs. Even when times are good many applicants try to find creative ways to stand out from the pack, and when the economy is this bad people have to be even more extreme. Joshua Persky, an out-of-work banker in New York, started walking around Manhattan wearing a sandwich board that read “MIT GRAD FOR HIRE” and had his phone number printed underneath.

The surprising thing? It worked. Persky’s stunt caught the eye of an accounting firm, which made him an offer. “I liked his resume. He had great business sense, great experience and great references,” Elliot Ogulnick, his new boss at the Manhattan firm Weiser LLP, said yesterday to the New York Post.

Oh man, do you know what this means? A whole slew of copycatters. It’s bad enough people try to hand me free newspapers to read on the way to the subway, but getting handed resumes? I think I’ll have to find a new route to work.
